Bolus  : Injection delivered over one very short duration

Catheter : fine flexible tube whose one end is placed in the vein, the artery or a cavity (peritoneal cavity or other) or in intrathecal or peridural space and whose other end is connected to the room by a connection ring

Central venous catheter  : catheter set up in the large veins of the center of the body

Implantable port : site implanted under the skin used for the administration of drugs. It is composed of two parts: a chamber of injection and a flexible tube called catheter

Heparinisation  : injection of an anticoagulant liquid to prevent that the catheter blockage when there is no perfusion

Implantation  : operation intended to set up the implantable port

Perfusion : injection in the venous network of a liquid using a tubular and a falcon by the intermediary of the catheter

Peridural or intraspinal :
defined an area located in the level of the spinal cord

Rinsing : to rinse the room and the catheter with physiological salt solution

Oedema : swelling on the level of the skin due to an inflammatory reaction or a liquid infiltration

Septum  : membrane car-sealing out of silicone intended to receive multiple punctures

Subcutaneous : under the skin

Important information


1. Carry your patient logbook and have it filled in each time the POLYSITE® is used or whenever you are hospitalised.

2. Do not hesitate to notify your doctor or nurse in the event of redness, irritation, pain or swelling at the implantation site.

3. Unless specifically contraindicated by the healthcare team, you are free to shower and bathe as normal after the postoperative period.

4. You may clean the skin in the implantation area in an identical way to the rest of the body, using your usual products. The local application of skin creams or dressings is unnecessary.
